Roger Bartlett
Roger, the original guitarist for Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band, began his journey with Jimmy as a duo of acoustic guitars and vocals. In addition to his role in the Coral Reefer Band, Roger wrote and performed the iconic "Fool for a Blonde," also known as the Sidewalk Café song from the classic horror film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
As a talented singer, songwriter, and lead guitarist, Roger fronts his own band, delivering original music that blends Rock, Blues, Funk, and Jazz. His distinctive voice, remarkable guitar skills, and unique sense of humor set his music apart.
Roger’s career began in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he played blues, rhythm & blues, and rock in various clubs and roadhouses across the South. Influenced by guitar legends like Django Reinhardt, B.B. King, and Eric Clapton, and songwriters such as The Beatles and Steve Cropper, his early bands and songwriting took him to Dallas, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and ultimately Nashville. There, he teamed up with hit songwriter Bill Callery to form the acoustic duo Lusaza Guse. Defying Nashville norms, Roger and Bill moved to Austin, Texas.
In Austin, after Lusaza Guse disbanded, Roger joined Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band, marking some of the most memorable performances of his career. After leaving the band, Roger settled in New York City, where he played with his band, worked as a session guitarist, producer, and recording engineer, and composed music for film, TV, and albums. He now resides in sunny St. Petersburg, Florida.
Roger’s impressive achievements include earning two platinum and gold records for his session work. He has contributed to soundtracks for films such as Urban Cowboy, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Rancho Deluxe (featuring Jeff Bridges and Sam Waterston). His guitar work is also featured on albums by Jimmy Buffett (including Margaritaville and Changes in Latitudes) and many other artists. Roger has shared the stage with notable acts including Little Feat, Three Dog Night, The Eagles, The Doobie Brothers, James Taylor, Lightning Hopkins, Heart, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, The Persuasions, Count Basie, Bill Haley and the Comets, Jackie Wilson, and many more.
